The Town of Marana (map) is one of the fastest growing communities in Arizona and poised to be a hub for the region. It is diverse in population and topography. The town has transformed from its roots in agriculture to a diverse community with shopping, residential and industrial centers. With vast amounts of open land still remaining, and only 26,000 residents, there is a lot of room for Marana to grow!
People move to Marana for its close proximity to Tucson and the amenities a big city offers; however, there remains a small-town lifestyle and many treasures. The elevation is listed as 2,000 feet but Marana has a varied landscape with areas nestled in mountain ranges, along riverbanks and in the desert.
Newcomers can choose from affordable homes in Master Planned Communities built on the flat farm fields or the million-dollar homes of the golf resort communities built in the foothills of the Tortolita Mountains. In between these communities one will find exceptional shopping centers, restaurants, parks and recreation facilities and industrial parks, and a large swath of protected desert has been set aside for the preservation of endangered plants and animals.
The largest livestock auction house in the region, Marana Stockyards, remains a town fixture, as do the numerous guest ranches and horse properties sprinkled around the town. Agriculture, the heart and soul of the town and the reason it exists, has also been integrated in areas for continued farming and agricultural uses that will blend with the more modern suburbia.
